Below are some Purbeck stone walls we built for a
client in a lovely part of the New Forest.
Sherborne, Dorset
These stone steps and the wall below are just part of many Forest Marble stone walls we have built here in Sherborne, all of which are built in lime mortar.

Rebuild
Sadly this part of the wall was in too bad a state to just repair and had to be rebuilt.
This wall is very old and the stone part of the wall at the bottom seems to have been built originally from stone taken from a nearby Monastery which was flattened during Henry 8th's Reformation and the dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s.
While taking the wall down we found parts of worn steps, pieces of stone mullions and other bits from which they built this wall from nearly 500 years ago.
Although it looks like new stone we are rebuilding the wall with but actualy it's the same stone.
The straight joint to the left is how it was originally.
New repair complete, it looks darker as it is still wet.

Building in lime
Half of this wall had to be taken down and rebuilt as it was in such a bad state of repair. We chopped out all the hard cement mortar on the other half so we could point it all in lime like it should be.
The main part of the Stonework is finished
Wall complete with Buck and Doe coping,
Pier cap and lime pointing.

Rebuild in Lime mortar
This beautiful large boundary wall has had some poor repairs in cement over the years which has shortened the life of the wall and badly needs some attention.
Below are timbers, ready to prop the wall so it
does not fall while we gently take it down.
This part is now rebuilt in lime mortar
